For those of you who weren’t around back then, Leela was a young trans girl who took her life in 2014 at the age of 16. Her life and death was one of the first big moments of media exposure for the struggles of the trans youth to the internet at large, and was one of the driving forces behind the education on trans issues that shook the internet and helped lead to more inclusive spaces.
Her parents deleted her blog shortly after her death, but an amazing kind soul copied everything onto another blog. @thelazerprincessarchives-blog is a piece of trans history, a piece of queer history, and important.
Fearing what the coming adult content ban might do to all things queer (the historical precedent does not bode well), I archived that blog here, for all those who wish to access it.
Remember Leela Alcorn, and all trans and other queer people who have lost their lives due to hate, and all those who have helped advance queer rights.
a black girl character growing her hair out long breaks more stereotypes than a black girl character having short hair
a black girl character getting to be soft and fragile breaks more stereotypes than a black girl character being strong all the time
a black girl character being protected and comforted by others breaks more stereotypes than a black girl character having no one to look out for her but herself
a black girl character being considered pretty or cute by other characters breaks more stereotypes than a black girl character being considered unattractive
not everything that is empowering for white girls is empowering for black girls
the sexism we face overlaps, but it is not the same

staff You are recommending that I follow a nazi blog I blocked last night. Your site promotes anti-semitism to Jews. Your site shoves Nazi Swastikas in the faces of Jews. It’s bad enough that the Nazi blogs seem to be sprouting up like weeds on a site that claims to have an anti-hate policy, but to actively promote them to people who have taken the steps of blocking these blogs is beyond the pale. Clean this place up. It’s turning into Stormfront.
I encourage everyone who sees this post, Jewish or otherwise, to reblog it. Tumblr has been ignoring the growth of Nazism on this site for too long. It needs to end.
